The printing drum in a laser printer is a cylinder which has been coated with a layer of photosensitive material. When the material is hit by light from the laser, the material is electrostatically charged. The charged areas of the printer drum correspond to the image defined by the computer. The toner is attracted to the charged drum and then transferred to the paper in the desired pattern.
